The time is flying and this year we are going to hold the 10th Continents Cup already. "Peterburgsky" Sports and Concert Complex was the venue of the 1st Continents Cup IPC Wheelchair Dance Sport competition which was held in 2009. All those years but one the host city of the Continents Cup competition was St.Petersburg. Only once, in 2013, the Continents Cup was held in Moscow (Moscow Region, Krasnogorsk). It is one of the most popular competitions in Wheelchair Dance Sport (now Para Dance Sport) in the World.
We are preparing an interesting program for all the participants and the guests of the Saint Petersburg 2018 Para Dance Sport Continents Cup competition. It is already quite usual for the competition in St.Petersburg that every year something new is coming to be tried as the test event. Single events, Freestyle events were tested at the Continents Cup competitions first. Junior competition was tested last year. Now all those events are included to the official Sports program of the World Para Dance Sport.
The modern and wheelchair accessible EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Centre will remain as the official venue of the Saint Petersburg 2018 Para Dance Sport Continents Cup competition for the 3rd year already.
The organizers of the competition are: Wheelchair Dance Sport Federation in Russia, «Dance on the Wheels» St.Petersburg Sport Club with the support of the Presidential grant Fund, the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation, the Government of St. Petersburg, Russian Federation of Sports for Persons with Physical Impairment, St. Petersburg Federation of Sports of Disabled People and other official partners of the Continents Cup.
Traditionally, Saint Petersburg 2018 Para Dance Sport Continents Cup will be held at the second weekend of September from 7 to 9 September 2018 and will delight the audience with vivid program.
"Show of Champions" - the unique show of the best wheelchair dancers of the World will put the fantastic final point of the Xth celebration of Saint Petersburg 2018 Para Dance Sport Continents Cup.
This year we are going to have two new events which are created for further development of the Para Dance Sport.
Junior U13 – as we have now Junior events in the official program for athletes starting from 13 years old, we decided to offer one more option for "our future" – the same program as the official one, but for boys and girls of the age from 7 to 12. At the time of 2024 Paris Games they will be already 13 – 18 years old!
Let's start thinking about our future today!

We are glad to inform you that the Xth Anniversary Continents Cup Wheelchair Dance Sport competition will be held under International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation support.
We hope that this fact will help dancers from other countries to solve problems with the participation and they will get a real chance in taking part in the Continents Cup competition, which will take place on September 7-9, 2018 in St Petersburg.
IWAS support is the only one possibility to try to save the high level of the one of the well-known Wheelchair Dance Sport event of the year.
Public Interregional Organization of Disabled «Wheelchair Dance Sport Federation in Russia» was planning the Xth Anniversary Continents Cup being sure that by September 2018 Continents Cup will be back to the international Paralympic family, but unfortunately this did not happen. In these difficult conditions Continents Cup Organizing Committee decided not to refuse from the traditional competition, which are prestart before the World Championship and European Championship along all ten years.
Our task as an organizer is to give all foreign athletes the opportunity to come to the competition, which is not international through International Paralympic Committee this year. In this case the main problem became to create the conditions of receiving financing for the participation for foreign dancers. Looking for the solution we appealed to the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation, and we have received the confirmation about this from IWAS headquarters.
We expect that you will evaluate our efforts, which are directed not only at Russian dancers' participation in the competition, but at maintaining the pace of development of Para Dance sport in general, because we are sure, that Continents Cup is still the one of the most important competitions in our dancing world.
We are waiting for you!
At this moment World Para Dance Championship in Belgium is almost over. World Wheelchair Dance Sport Championship – for the first time without Russian team. For the first time we can’t see Russian flag over the dancefloor. We were not allowed to participate. At the last World Wheelchair Dance Sport Championship in 2015 in Italy Russian team was the absolute leader in the medal standings, won the dancers from 22 countries and brought to Russia 5 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 6 bronze medals. But this year we can’t to defend our title.
We punished? But the punishment is, if you are guilty. But if we are not guilty, why we are not present at the championship? I am Senior coach of the National wheelchair dance team of Russia Elena Lozko, I have no the answer to this question.
I start to dance in 1997. In those difficult times, when many people did not believe, that it is possible to dance in the wheelchair, to take part in the competitions and championships!
I was able to prove that this kind of sport has the future, and our National team of Russia became the great example of the limitless possibilities of man in the art of dance. Since 1997 Russian wheelchair dancers participated in all European and World Championships, where they demonstrated new elements and programs always, and I think that this was the development of the sport in general.
Wheelchair Dance Sport Federation in Russia made a proposal for inclusion new disciplines such “Duo”, “Single”, “Freestyle” in the program of European and World Championships.
First official competitions in the new disciplines were in World Wheelchair Dance Sport Cup and Continents Cup in Russia. Exactly Russian coaches and specialists made a huge contribution to the development of our sport in the world, giving the opportunity to many dancers to join this sport, to try themselves in new kinds. I am very pleased that today all this disciplines were presented in the 2017 World Championship.
I believe to the sport friendship and I think, that two days all participants of World Para Dance Championship recalled Russian wheelchair dancers, whose participation would increase the sport intensity on the dancefloor of the world championship.
I really hope, that all participants of World Para Dance Championship got a real pleasure from performances at such prestigious competitions, and best of them received the joy of the winners triumph.
But it was the first World Championship in 17 years, which was not involved my team.
And I have nothing more to say.
World champion 2000,
President of Wheelchair Dance Sport Federation in Russia,
Honored coach of Russia
